Attention Over the Bridge Bus Families

Beginning on Monday, September 18th, there will be a lane restriction and repair work on the Bourne Bridge scheduled to run through late November. See article here.

In an effort to reduce travel time for the students, and in consultation with the bus company, the following changes to morning pick-up times are as follows and effective 

Monday, September 18th.

Rt 3/Exit 13   Panera 6:20 AM

St. Margaret’s Church 6:50 AM

Market Basket 7:20 AM

Please be sure to arrive a few minutes early and have your child(ren) ready to board the bus when it arrives at your stop.  Also, please encourage your child(ren) to be ready for pickup at the end of the school day at the designated waiting area in each building.  Please direct any questions to Mrs. Keras at mkeras@JPIIHyannis.org.

Parents as Partners and Advocates in Catholic Education

Tuesday, September 19, 6-7:00 P.M. – Grades 5 – 8 Parents/Guardians

Thursday, September 21, 6-7:00 P.M. – Grades 9 – 12 Parents/Guardians

 

Do you have a student who has a learning difference? Would you like to know more about advocating for your child’s needs with an asset-based approach? Would you like to know more about how to partner with the school to best support your child? Dr. Molly McMahon of the Roche Center for Catholic Education at Boston College will be presenting these two sessions on “Parents as Partners and Advocates in Catholic Education.” Dr. McMahon is the Director of Leadership Programs for the Roche Center for Catholic Education at Boston College. As a previous teacher, teacher leader, and school administrator, Dr. McMahon is passionate about social and emotional learning, parent engagement, and the creation of a positive school culture. 

Dr. McMahon and the Student Services Team will also take questions after the presentation. All parents are welcome to attend! Sign up here for the event.

Host Families Needed!

Our international student program is in need of host families. Mary Offiler, our office manager at the Prep, has been hosting students for years and is currently hosting a student from Brazil. If you have any questions, she is an excellent resource and can be reached at moffiler@jpiihyannis.org. Ms. Valentino is the program coordinator and can be reached at mvalentino@jpiihyannis.org. There is a referral incentive and stipend for host families.

School Store

The school store will be open on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 2:45 – 3:30 P.M.

Please email pictures from the Welcome Back Dance and any other JPII events, sports, and happenings to photos@jpiihyannis.org.  We will sort through photos and identify proper placement on our social media platforms, yearbook, and other school needs.

Grade 8 Class Officers

The nominated students will make speeches on September 18 during X-Block, and the elections will be held on September 19 during homeroom.

MAP Testing, September 19 – 21

MAP testing will begin each day at 8:15 am, so please make sure that your students arrive at school on time.  To learn more about MAP testing, click here

“Meet the Faculty” – Grades 5-8 Mini Class Night, September 27, 5:45 P.M.- 7:00 P.M.

Parents and guardians of current students are invited to Mini Class Night on September 27 at 5:45 P.M. The evening begins with an assembly in Monsignor Thomson Hall. Ms. Paula Daly, Assistant Head of School, will introduce the faculty. Following the assembly, parents/guardians will attend classes according to their children’s Day 1 schedule.

 

Teachers will introduce themselves, explain their course content and class expectations, and provide general grading guidelines. Each “class” will be about seven minutes in length. Following a run-through of the schedule, parents/guardians and teachers are invited back to Monsignor Thomson Hall for light refreshments sponsored by our Home

and School Association.

School Uniform

Click here for the High School Dress Code Policy. The warm weather option is a Hilfiger uniform short-sleeved polo shirt with the school logo, which may be worn from August to Columbus Day and after April Vacation to the end of the year.

Christian Service Opportunity

September 23, 8 – 11 A.M.  Bike Ride fundraiser to benefit the new Tommy’s Place in Centerville

Tommy’s Place is a home for families with children battling cancer to visit Cape Cod for a week for a no-cost dream vacation

Volunteers are needed to help direct traffic for a Bike ride fundraiser.  We are looking for 20-30 students. Snacks and a free t-shirt will be provided, and you are welcome to stay for the after-party! Molly McKeen ‘20, a JPII Alum, is coordinating this event.
