JPII Students Awarded Spots at State Science Fair

Dylan Palmer ’20

After months of research, experimentation, and data analysis, twelve JPII students presented their independent research projects at the South Shore Regional Science Fair on March 11. The event included over 130 students representing more than 20 schools from Southeastern MA.

The top projects were awarded positions in the MA State Science and Engineering Fair at MIT in May.

  • Second Place award: Dylan Palmer (‘20);
  • Third Place awards: Michael Carlowicz (‘18), Madilynn Hewson (‘20), and Colby August (‘20);
  • Will also represent JPII at the MSSEF: Ava Skogstrom (‘20) and William Coty (‘20).

During the morning, students presented projects to a variety of judges. In the afternoon, students had an opportunity to visit with other students to learn about their research projects.

Reflecting on her experience at the Regional Fair, freshman Ava Skogstrom said, “Going to the regional science fair was a great opportunity and experience. I had the chance to see the wide range of amazing science and engineering projects, many I had never even thought of before. Seeing the other students’ projects opened my eyes to the many different aspects and subjects that characterize science, and I was wowed by them all. In addition, I got to talk to inventive, passionate kids, and become friends with people I plan to stay in touch with.”
